Permanent Fire Pit Layout
The permanent fire pit will be positioned in a clear, open area of the woodland, at least 5 metres away from any shelters. Before lighting a fire, all leaves, sticks, dry grass and other debris will be swept away from the fire area. The area above the fire pit will also be checked to ensure there are no low-hanging branches or other flammable materials directly overhead.
A small circular fire pit will be positioned in the centre. Approximately 1 metre away from the fire pit, a ring of stones or logs will create a clear visual heat warning and safety barrier. A further metre away, 10 sturdy tree stumps will be positioned as seats around the outside of the fire circle. A clear gap will be left between the stumps to provide an obvious entrance and exit point.
This layout provides students with clear and easily understood boundaries around the fire. The different rings help students recognise the areas they can safely move through and where they should remain seated. The clear entrance and exit also supports safe movement, particularly for students who may need additional guidance or support. Students will always be supervised closely around the fire, with the fire area checked before, during and after each session.
