Birds | European Robin (Erithacus rubecula) – Orange-red breast and friendly behaviour.

Value: Easy to identify and ideal for birdwatching. Risk: Avoid disturbing nests during breeding season.

Great Tit (Parus major) – Yellow breast with a bold black stripe.

Value: Excellent for identifying bird calls and woodland birds. Risk: Observe quietly without disturbing nests.

Eurasian Blackbird (Turdus merula) – Male is black with a bright yellow beak; female is brown.

Value: Great for discussing feeding behaviour and nesting. Risk: Avoid disturbing nesting sites.

Great Spotted Woodpecker (Dendrocopos major) – Black-and-white plumage with a bright red undertail.

Value: Demonstrates the importance of deadwood habitats. Risk: None.

Wood Pigeon (Columba palumbus) – Large grey pigeon with white neck patches.

Value: Easy to observe and compare with other woodland birds. Risk: Encourage good hand hygiene if students encounter bird droppings.
